A lot of offset does not need a large overall length
266 mm radial offset with an overall length of just 155 mm – just one example of a Schmidt-Kupplung coupling (in this case size V2100 in flange design), which clearly shows that extreme offset compensation is possible with extremely compact results. The reason for this combination of offset and compact design lies in the system of the Schmidt-Kupplung coupling, whose operating principle is based on a parallel crank mechanism. When a plate rotates, the rotational movement is achieved absolutely uniformly during circulation by three or more coupling links, due to the build-up of alternating tensile and compressive forces, and thus transferred to the next plate with the correct angle. I.e. if the misalignment changes under load and during operation, the Schmidt-Kupplung adjusts itself through the central plate compensating element, without any reaction forces acting outwards.
What could otherwise be mastered only with long cardan shafts, can be achieved by the Schmidt-Kupplung coupling in no time.
